Meet the Doctors
With more than 70 years of combined experience, our four Santa Barbara chiropractors at Advanced Chiropractic Group have the knowledge, compassion, and training to treat a great variety of our patients' needs. Whether you require rehabilitation from an automobile accident, treatment for lower back pain, neck pain, headaches or sciatica, Dr. Michael P. Hergenroether, Dr. Michael S. York, Dr. James A. Cochran, and Dr. Larson are at your service.
All four of our doctors have extensive experience in traditional treatments, such as spinal manipulation for sciatica, headaches and other issues, and they also use advanced procedures such as the Activator Method, which is a low-force technique for rehabilitation, sciatica, back, neck and extremity pain treatment.
A 1984 graduate of Palmer Chiropractic College in Iowa, Dr. Hergenroether is a member of the American and California Chiropractic Associations who focuses on precision high-speed instruments to adjust the joints of the spine and extremities. He is an avid golfer, runner and plays the ukulele. His wife of 25 years, Peggy, is a retired University of California Santa Barbara administrator. Their daughter, Akiko and her husband Jim Davis, own Wade-Davis Design, a local architecture firm. Dr. Hergenroether's son Bryan is in a sports management master's program at California State Long Beach.
Dr. York graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1983 after serving in the US Army as a tank commander and armor instructor. Successful spinal treatment for his own automobile accident injury and lifelong headaches prompted him to enter the chiropractic field. Dr. York is a member of the Community Covenant Church. He is also a devoted sports fan and high school soccer referee. He's been married for 28 years to Cydney Miller, a local Montessori teacher. Their son, Matt, is a teacher and varsity soccer coach at Dos Pueblos High School, while their daughter, Caitlin, is a graduate of Yale University and is a bilingual paralegal for the Federal Defenders of New York.
A 1992 graduate of Palmer College West, Dr. Cochran is an avid mountain biker, kayaker, and annual participant in the SB Cruiser Ride to Isla Vista. His wife of six years, Nancy Earle, is an artist, massage therapist, and founder of JAMS Music School, a non-profit school serving at-risk youth and underprivileged children in Santa Barbara County. Dr. Cochran is on the JAMS board of directors and a member of the Santa Barbara Toastmasters and Kalyra Winery.
Dr. Larson graduated with academic and clinical honors from Life Chiropractic College West in 2015. He is a native of the Sacramento foothills and first moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB, where he graduated with a BA in Communication in 2011. He has returned to Santa Barbara to become a new doctor with the Advanced Chiropractic Group. He is looking forward to becoming involved with the community here. Dr. Larson’s goal is to provide health and wellness to our local community by empowering our patients with knowledge about diet, exercise and the function of the human body.
Although our chiropractors maintain a thriving practice, they still make it a priority to give back to and stay involved in the community.
Dr. Hergenroether has volunteered his services to disabled skiers at the Challenge Aspen Mono-Ski Camp and participates in fund-raising events such as the Malibu golf tournament for the Exceptional Children's Foundation, one of the local charities he supports on an ongoing basis.
Dr. York participates in ongoing men's fellowship youth mentoring programs and local sports officiating. He and his wife are concerned about environmental changes and are considering future Peace Corps volunteering.
Dr. Cochran regularly participates in and donates his services to a number of annual events. They include the Barbara Ireland Breast Cancer Walk, Carpinteria Triathlon, McConnel's Ice Cream Run, and the Avon Breast Cancer Walk.
